Driver's licenses with new protection elements are being introduced in Ukraine

From August 1, 2024, a new system of issuing driver's licenses and vehicle registration certificates with enhanced protection against forgeries will be introduced in Ukraine.

The main service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that the new documents will be equipped with additional protection elements that will be applied to the driver's license and vehicle registration certificate. These elements include a special marking of the protective cover of the forms and a QR code in the lower right corner of the certificate.

The introduction of such enhanced protection will significantly reduce the likelihood of counterfeiting. It will also make it possible to check the legitimacy of the vehicle registration certificate online," the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs notes.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to introduce new documents in December 2023 to combat the mass production and sale of fake driver's licenses. According to law enforcement agencies, the number of such crimes has increased significantly recently.

It is important to note that holders of valid driver's licenses and vehicle registration certificates do not need to exchange them for new models. Old documents remain valid until they expire.
