August 2024 was a real breakthrough in the electric car market in Ukraine. The basis of this segment is used cars imported from abroad. Even if cars are not "driven" on wheels, but are delivered by sea or by truck, the concept of "servitude" remains familiar to Ukrainian motorists. Statistics confirm this fact — the share of "freshly driven" electric cars in August amounted to 58.3% of the total number, which exceeds sales of new and domestic resales of used cars.

In August, the car fleet of Ukraine was replenished with 5,499 new electric cars, which is a record for the country. The growth rates are impressive: compared to July 2024, the market grew by 44%, and compared to August 2023, by 75%. This indicates a steady growth in the demand for ecological transport.

Leaders among manufacturers

Among the manufacturers of electric cars, Tesla is undoubtedly the leader. Models of this American brand remain the most popular among Ukrainian drivers. Tesla has dominated the market for several years in a row, and even in August it held the lead. It is interesting that the first Cybertruck pickup has already arrived in Ukraine, which has aroused considerable interest among motorists.

The reasons for the jump in sales

Such a sharp increase in the number of imported electric cars is due to several factors. One of them is an information campaign regarding the possible introduction of a 15% tax on the first registration of a car, including electric cars. Although this tax was ultimately not implemented, news of it encouraged many drivers to make a purchase. Also an important factor was the future increase in excise taxes on fuel, which pushed many motorists to switch to electric vehicles.

In addition, the gradual decrease in prices for used electric cars, especially after the increase in their number on the world market, makes them more affordable for Ukrainians. While August's jump looks impressive, some of those sales were accelerated by the aforementioned factors, so similar records may not be repeated anytime soon.

Conclusions

The electric car market in Ukraine is experiencing rapid growth. August 2024 became an indicative month for this segment of the car market. Ukrainians are actively switching to environmentally friendly transport, and this growth is supported by both external economic factors and the increasing availability of electric vehicles. However, despite the jump in sales, further indicators may stabilize, considering that a significant part of purchases was stimulated by certain temporary factors.
